Seriously, you see the cute little accessories
EVERYWHERE these days. Everyone is an entreprenaur, but um, well my experience with buying them is they always fall apart [k, not always, I did get some stuff from
Bye Bye Baby and that has stood the test of time! It's even Little Monster proof!]. I'm not saying the ones I make don't fall apart, I don't wear them often enough to find out - although I did step on one of my rings the other day and it snapped, but I don't blame it. Also once I bought some stuff and it had hot-glue all over it, not really a good look. I look closely at mine and yeh, you can see the hotglue, but whatever, I MADE THEM, so I don't really give a...
These little accessories are so easy to whip up while you're getting ready, so you have something to co-ordinate with anything you end up wearing! #notspeakingfrompersonalexperienceoranything
So why bother paying for stuff that is some rad little trinkets hotglued onto a blank brooch./hairclip/ring base when you can D.I.Y.?
Here's what you'll need!
Glue-gun and glue sticks.
You can pick these up from your crazy changs or local fabric store for like 8 bucks! Doesn't mean it'll last you forever, but it does the job!
A good look on etsy will find all the little things you want! My favourite seller is
MiMiLoLo, and I've discovered these cute little thingers are called cabochans/cabochons. Have a search on etsy for them and you'll turn up LOADS!

| ribbon + lace! |
Other little knick-knacks I use are buttons, children's toys
eg lego, scraps of felt, ribbon, lace, fabric etc etc etc! pretty much whatever isn't bolted down, you can glue it to your jewellery. Yeh, even if your kid if you so wish.
For the bases, search on etsy under the Supplies tab for "
brooch backs", "
ring bases", or "hair clips" - there should be a dozen drop down before you click search, so you can choose more specific style.
This one is for metal hair clips. Also I picked up these rad hairclip with the hole in the end in the quilting section of my local fabric store. The holes in the hair clips and the brooch bases are EXCELLENT for the hotglue to stick into.
K. First off, let's make a simple bow!
Bow
Cut a rectangle of felt. This is mine, the dirty dollar coin shows the size of it.
Pinch the centre of it
With a needle and thread, secure the aea you pinched with a few stitches.
Now you have a simple bow!
Hot glue something to the centre of it, and then using a peg, secure it in place for a few minutes so the glue can dry and keep it together.
Brooches + Rings
To help keep stuff glued well, it's a really good idea to use a scrap of fabric between the back of whatever you are using and the clip/brooch/ring base.
Cut a tiny scrap to fit the size of the base
Then glue it on.
Now you're ready to add whatever you want to it.
Hairclips
Snap the clip open
Apply hot glue to the end of it, making sure you're only gluing the upper section of the clip
Now stick whatever you need onto it. The poker chip bow on the right is a hair clip.
Using Buttons with Shanks
Got a rad button that you want to use, but it's got a big annoying shank?
Snip it off! DON'T use your fabric scissors, regular paper scissors will work
Helping things stick better
If you have something with a flat back, it is helpful to make it as rough as possible so the glue has something to stick into. I use a steak knife and scratch away at the back of my cabochan to create an uneven surface
Things I Made
Yep you can see the glue A LOT in the batman ring, but unless you are taking up close photos of it, you don;t even see it!
The bat ring was once a button
Roller Derby bow!
These were once buttons, but I made them into little brooches for Little Monster to wear
Token Batman-a-holic Shot
That spiderweb ring. I can't get it off :( I bent it while wearing it and now it just stays on.
