Tutorial: Faux shrug t-shirt surgery

I got this large Blink 182 t-shirt on eBay when I realised I did not own one Blink shirt. I felt really bad! Anyway awesomely enough this shirt has a print on the front and on the back so in my eyes that = two shirts! Hurray!

I cut up the back of it for the idea I had in mind, so I still have the front of the shirt left to make something radical out of. You can see a video of me wearing it here.

As you can see I made it into a scoop-neck tank type deal with a shrug-looking section over the top from contrast fabric! It's all joined together and you can pull it on like a normal shirt. The back is just plain.

[Scroll down to the bottom of  this post to see something else I made last year with the same version of this Blink 182 shirt! Warning: Contains cute!]

Are you ready for the tutorial?
What you'll need is:

T-shirt you want to operate on
Contrast fabric
Pattern pieces from your favourite shirt! [tutorial how to do that here]

Vlog: Blink 182 T-Shirt Surgery

Hiya! I finished this shirt today. Writing up the tutorial now so it will be up either later tonight or early tomorrow morning :) Enjoy!

Tutorial: Make a pattern from your favourite t-shirt

Well I did finish my Jedi minidress! If you're following this blog's twitter you would have seen me tweet it and the robe earlier today! [the twitter widget is on the left sidebar there]

Tonight I'm bringing you a short tutorial. I think it's kind of necessary for all the tutes I'll be bringing you in August, and even though it's simple and basic I think it's helpful to know if you've never done it before. I'm going to show you how to make a pattern from your favourite t-shirt so that you can use it to model t-shirt surgeries or even making yourself a nice fitting shirt from scratch. It also means that you don't have to destroy your favourite shirt to get a good pattern!

You ready? Lessgo!

Vlog: What I'm working on today!

So Thera has been video-blogging and mkaing tutes and things for a while. She made me a really sweet video proclaiming her undying love for me so I made her one back! It was so scary! Now I have the bug and I'm enjoying video-blogging.

Anyway, I thought I'd do a small video with bonus shenanigans from my son for you guys, just talking about my current works-in-progress which I am going to try and complete today!

Oh you get to hear one of the very few words little Monster can say "Preeze?"

Recycled Comic Book Fridge Magnets

I've been mod-podging all over the place lately. I'm not going to show you ALL the things I made until a slow news day I think. Or whenever you feel you can trust looking at yet another thing made from comic book panels and mod podge!

I glued some panels onto cereal boxes, mod-podged them and used old magnets glued to the back, you know free magnets you get at take away or video stores? Those!

How cool are they? The Dc Comics one and the Star Wars one were tags from shirts, the blue one at the top is the rule for Sheldon's "Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock" game.

I'm a massive Mod Podge addict and I have to thank my craft wife Thera for sending me a bottle and starting it all!

Try This Thursday #9 - Sailor Moon!

This morning my friend showed me this tutorial on how to make a Sailor Moon tiara and I thought, why not see how many sailor moon tutorials there are out there? Not very many it turns out, but I'll try and rectify that in the upcoming months [after Star Wars month of course!]

Put this song on as you browse the post!

How to make the entire Sailor Moon costume. No step-by-step pictures though. I promise when I make my Sailor Mars one I will have pictures!

This is beyond cute! You can buy these iron-on transfers in all the different Sailor types at MeatballHead for $7. Then just iron them onto a t-shirt or whatever you want and you're ready to roll! Easy to make on iron-on paper but I really couldn't be bothered trying to redraw the bow!

Sailor Moon Bow tutorial! Even if you're not going to make a full costume how cute is this bow in general!

If you're into making an entire costume and want to learn how to make EVERYTHING check out this post on Cosplay.com! Resources galore!

Sailor Collar Tutorial! I didn't use this tutorial, but it's exactly the same way I make my sailor collars for things!

These earrings are adorable. You can buy them here for $8 [there's other Sailor Moon earrings, hairclips and chokers here too], but they are easy to make with polymer clay and pearly beads. I might give that a go!

This Sailor Jupiter choker you can buy for $5. Easy to DIY with ribbon a star button/charm and some velcro at the back. Just remember to melt the ends of your ribbon with a lighter to prevent fraying!

Let's check out some awesome video tutorials by Mallory at MoonPrism! She makes custom orders for Sailor Moon props, but she also has some rad tutorials on her youtube channel on how to make them yourself! I love it when people are so generous like that!

No pic of the actual end result but here's a tutorial on how to make the feather and pearl hairclips [see the pic below of what I mean]. Too cute!

How about some Sailor Moon nail art? The little senshi uniforms are so cute! There's another one here done on real nails, so it might be easier!

How to make a pleated skirt!

Long Black Hair Extensions for Me!

Yep. I have new new hair now! Yesterday I went to a hairdresser for the first time in a VERY long time [I think the second time in my entire life?] and got my hair dyed and pretty black hair extensions put in. The girl who owns the place is a friend of mine [our boys had playdates] and her partner is the little brother of a guy I used to go to school with.

So we're practically best friends.

Heh heh.

Anyway she was very excited to do my hair because i let her just go crazy with it. She added blue and purple extensions too, which crazily enough are the EXACT SHADE of my existing hair. They kept some of my original blue and purple in the front and the colour matching is ridiculous! She put some white in too.

From the back. Isn't it amazing. The first thing I did was Whipped My Hair [love that Vevo forbids me from watching the real video. Whatever. I don't care!] all over the shop. Haven't been able to do that in a bit under a year and a half.

What do you think? I feel like me again! Please excuse the webcam photos!

If you live in Toowoomba, or nearby, head over to La Di Da on Margaret st. Affordable hair extensions, cutest girls and there's an amazing carvery that sells the BEST chips just around the corner.

When I was 17 I had hair like this. Long and black except no shaved side and I had a blunt fringe [or bangs as you non-australians call them!]. I wore it in plaits to work and people would always call me Wednesday [as in Wednesday Addams] or if they were trying to be smart, Tuesday. Having my hair long and black again with a splash of colour just makes me feel so ME again! I feel like that happy bubbly girl I used to be, and it feels good.

Wednesday is all grown up but she's so much perkier!

I don't know if it's my hair or the Jedi robe but I actually did loads of housework today. I even ironed my hsuband's shirts. I DO NOT IRON. This is amazing!

Oh yeh and my ear stretchers came today so I'm stretching BOTH my ears as opposed to just the left one I had stretched since I was 15. Feels good you guys. Feels real good.

That's my devious Jedi face. I'm in my snuggly warm Jedi dressing gown I made last night. You get to see all of it in August for Star Wars Month! [Don't forget to flick me an email if you want to participate!]

Twitter!

I made a twitter for my blog! This way you can see I do craft behind the scenes when I seemingly abandon this place for so long! Follow me for some sneak peeks of upcoming projects!

There's also one of these little widgets on the sidebar now. So you can keep tabs on me :)

Star Wars Month!

That's right. We loved Batman Week so much, even though life got a bit hectic at the end of it and I couldn't finish it up properly [I promise next year will be EPIC], we decided to throw a Star Wars Month!

Star Wars Month will run for the entire month of August [this has nothing to do with my birthday near the end of the month!] from August 1-31!

Little Monster's name is changing up to Youngling and I'm now a Jedi. Well Jedi Apprentice. I don't claim to know all things Star Wars, no that is reserved for one of my best friends Chris who is teaching me everything he knows. I love Star Wars though, and a lot of my friends do too so we thought we'd come together and share our appreciation for it!

This month you'll see tutorials from myself, from my craft wife Thera, as well as some awesome things from my gang of crafty fiends. I'm also forcing my real-life fiends to contribute too! I've been trawling the internet hardcore but if you have something email it in okay?

All posts are being queued up and there'll be a fresh Star Wars themed post up every morning of August at 9am AEST!

And yes, all the signatures for that month will now look like this...

You knew it had to be done.

And you know what else? If we can think up a month full of new things, or hell even a week, we will totally be doing this next May for May The Fourth. Yeh. That's right.

Oh and a disclaimer, I have a very big crush on Hayden Christensen, so there may be some gratuitous Anakin Skywalker pics around. Send me an email with your ideas or Star Wars themed crafts! You got like a month and a half!

Checkered Dress

I made this inspired by one of my favourite villains, Harley Quinn. I sketched two designs and my friends chose this one although I'm going to make the second also because it's more HQ.

Basic little dress with sweetheart bust line, lace yolks front and back and cap sleeves. So easy! yes it is ridic short, I do still need to sew a band across the bottom but we're about to run out the door to go to Brisbane so I'll have to do it later!

More pics under the cut!

Update!

Hi fiends!

Just a quick little update, I've been sewing for myself [AH WHAT? Yes] so I'll be updating this blog much more frequently and also something else has happened which means more content on my bloggy!

I 'deactivated' my facebook yesterday. It's kind of weird losing complete contact with a lot of my friends but I gave them all my phone number, email, this website and my tumblr addresses so if they want me they can find me! I really hate not being able to talk to them whenever I want, and it's kinda boring not having something to check every now and then but I'm putting more time into creating and doing things which I guess is a good thing!

Pretty sure with my deactivated account, all my fanpages are gone. Yep. Didn't really think that one through. So instead of getting updates on the facebook page you might want to add this site to your google reader or something. I'm going to create another fanpage through my husband's account and I'll give you guys the address to that because it updates automatically with Networked Blogs.

Also. I dyed my hair again! I'm changing it all drastically next Thursday and I thought since I still had leftovers of some coloured dye I would put that in my hair! So here you go!

More pics after the cut!
