Eventually I will put up some tutorials on bleaching and dying hair but not just yet. And it will come with a GIANT DISCLAIMER that if you're not careful your hair will fall out. It happened to me the first time I bleached it, wayyy back in 2004ish. That was bad. But I learnt my lesson. And I bleach my hair constantly and it is still healthy as anything!

That's a pretty fantastic hair timeline! I started reading your blog a few months ago and it occurred to me you might be able to answer a hair question--I understand it comes with a disclaimer! I helped my daughter bleach and dye her hair pink back in November. We did it again in December to touch up the pink, now she wants to remove the pink and dye it blonde. The pink dye is a direct dye, if that's important--any advice on how to do this without her hair falling out? Thanks!

I've been dying my hair constantly for the last 8 years and this year alone I was changing and bleaching it every week until it was so badly damaged so I shaved it all off a couple of days ago, I use to have the chelsea cut in 2007 as well, this is the best timeline I have found so far to give an idea just how long it will be again by the end of the year! It's so hard to stay one colour for too long!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the guts to go for bold color like you did! I've gone brown, black, red (auburn, not fluo). The riskiest I've ever gotten was to add a fluo blue streak underneath right after my 2nd son was born 2 years ago...but my hair was waist length so unless it was in a braid (like usual) you probably couldn't tell there was any color but blonde.

What dye did you use for the red hair? I live in Germany and can't find anything that's that intense in colour. But I really really want 'fire brigade' red hair. (^_^)

I'm pretty sure the red was just a box dye from the grocery store! I usually use Schwarzkopf but it could have been Loreal

ReplyDeleteLot's of practice! The first time I did it was a horrific experience and we bleached it too much and damaged my hair. When it finally grew back I braved bleaching again. Try on small sections of your hair first, the key is TONER not more bleach. Get it as light as you can with bleach, then remove the highlights {for me they were yellow and brassy} with a purple toner.

I love the hair timeline, I need to show this to my daughter since she thinks that I change my hair color too much, lol. You are so brave with shaving your head, I love your beautiful blue eyeshadow in that pic! And I can't pick a favorite because clearly, you can rock any color and style you choose!
